Short, honest answers to the questions people actually ask us before they buy. No upselling — several of these will point you at the cheaper option.
Boxing gloves: which weight?
Glove weight is about protection, not difficulty. Heavier gloves have more padding, so they protect your hands and your partner more.
- 4oz — children. This is the only weight we stock for kids, and it is the right one.
- 8oz to 10oz — speed work, pad work, and lighter adults. Less padding, faster hands.
- 12oz — the safe all-round choice for most adults. If you are buying one pair and are not sure, buy this.
- 14oz to 16oz — sparring, and heavier or taller adults. More padding between your knuckles and someone's head.
A rough rule: under 130 lb, 10oz. 130–160 lb, 12oz. Over 160 lb, or sparring at any weight, 14oz or 16oz.
Automatic or quartz watch?
Both are in the Watches collection and the product page always says which one you are looking at.
- Automatic winds itself from the motion of your wrist. No battery, ever. It also stops after roughly a day or two off the wrist and needs resetting, and it keeps worse time than a $20 quartz watch — a few seconds a day is normal and not a fault.
- Quartz runs on a battery. It is more accurate, needs no attention, and the battery lasts years.
Buy automatic because you like that a machine is doing it. Buy quartz because you want to know what time it is.
What does water resistance actually mean?
This is the single biggest source of returns in watches, so we are blunt about it.
- 30 m — rain, handwashing, sweat. Not swimming, not showering, not diving. The number is a pressure test, not a depth rating.
- 50 m — showering and shallow swimming.
- 100 m and above — swimming and snorkelling.
Most watches in this shop are 30 m. Do not swim in them. We would rather lose the sale than take the return.
How much LED strip do I need?
Measure the run with a tape measure, then round up to the next size. You can tuck spare length away behind furniture; you cannot stretch a strip that came up short.
- Behind a 55–65" TV: 5–10 m is plenty.
- Around the ceiling line of an average bedroom: 15–20 m.
- A whole room including shelving and desk: 30–40 m.
Also worth knowing: the strip cannot be re-stuck once it is down and it cannot be returned once cut, so measure before you peel.
Which replacement TV remote?
Match the brand, not the TV model. Our remotes come in separate versions for Roku and Roku-built TVs (TCL, Onn), for Samsung, and for LG. There is also a rechargeable Samsung model if you are tired of buying batteries, and 2-packs and 4-packs if you want a spare in another room.
Will this controller work with my device?
- DualSense — PS5, PC, Mac and mobile. The haptics and adaptive triggers only do their full trick on PS5; on PC they work as a normal controller.
- Xbox Wireless Controller — Xbox consoles, PC, smart TVs and phones, over Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth or USB-C.
If you mostly play on PC, either works. Windows handles the Xbox controller with no setup at all, which makes it the easier of the two.
Still not sure?
Ask us on the contact page before you order. We would rather spend two minutes helping you choose than process a return in three weeks.
